Why did you choose this as your illustration example?
I chose this illustration because I’m naturally drawn to ocean life, I’ve loved sea animals ever since I was young. Although sharks are my favorite, I can appreciate the beauty of other sea creatures, but sharks will always be the best.

What kind of illustration is it?
It is very stylized and full detail, the colors really pull you in and make one realize that this is an image of living thing.

What is the purpose of the illustration?
The purpose of the piece was to represent biodiversity in our oceans ecosystems especially our coral reefs that are quickly disappearing.

What was the context in which the illustration appeared?
It was found on an article written in May of 2019, the article is titled “Ocean-Inspired Illustration Raises Awareness of Rapid Marine Life Extinction” Originally the illustration was made fo the Pangeaseed Foundation. 

What is the message of the illustration?
The main message is to show the importance of protecting our oceans sea life, while showing the diversity that entails, It doesn’t focus on just one animal it shows that each animal plays a key part in a healthy ocean, and thriving ecosystem. 

Who is the intended audience of the illustrated message?
The general public that may not know the importance of the oceans ecosystems, people that may not see the ocean everyday. People that don’t see the oceans coral reefs dying everyday due to the amount of carbon dioxide being produced by humans. 

What is the communication objective of the illustration?
To portray the importance of biodiversity in the oceans coral reefs. Making sure that the  viewer realize what we are losing day by day.

It was created with a fine tip drawing pen, and watercolor.

The illustrator is Mat Miller, He lives in Bristol, and he is a freelance illustrator.
